Wallet Breach Causes Bitcoin Exchange Bitstamp to Temporarily Suspend Service

Bitcoin exchange Bitstamp has temporarily suspended service as a result of a confirmed Bitcoin wallet breach. Earlier today, Bitstamp started by taking unusually long to process bitcoin withdrawals. Later, Bitstamp also changed its Bitcoin deposit system and gave every user a new Bitcoin deposit address. Deposits made to old Bitstamp deposit addresses will "not be honored." It's Not Just You: BitStamp Down

It's not just you, folks. BitStamp appears to be down at the moment. A number of users on Reddit have reported issues accessing the Bitcoin exchange's website in the past hour or so. No indication as to what the issue is, but users are greeted with an "Internal Server Error" upon accessing the website. Perhaps not the friendliest of messages in the midst of a crucial trading period. We'll update this post just as soon as we have more information on the outage. Update [12:28PM Eastern]: Looks like the website is up, but with spotty performance.

Bitstamp Goes Down, Traders Panic

When's the most inconvenient time for a top bitcoin exchange to go down? Why, in the middle of the trading day, of course! This seems to be the case at the moment, as users are unable to reach Bitstamp's homepage. The API, on the other hand remains functional. newsBTC's attempt to access the site produced a 404 Page not found error, with the bold text "and it's gone" - which is there in jest, but we can see how someone might be shocked to see that. Having Trouble Accessing Bitstamp? You're Not The Only One

Just a reminder brought to you by your friends at newsBTC. If you're having trouble getting access to Bitstamp today, you're not the only one. The exchange's website has been up and down this afternoon due to unknown reasons. It's very much the center of much paranoia, with some even speculating they've been forced to shut down by a government entity. Of course, that doesn't seem to be the case.
