Robocoin Selects Fujitsu’s PalmSecure Biometrics Technology for All Bitcoin Kiosks to Help Ensure Highest Level of Account Security

Global leader in virtual currency and cash handling integrates PalmSecure technology to strengthen authentication in worldwide network of kiosks.

Robocoin CEO, Jordan Kelley, to deliver Keynote at ATM & Mobile Summit on September 11, 2014, in Washington, DC

Fujitsu Frontech North America Inc., a leader in innovative technology and front-end solutions, announced today that Robocoin, a global leader in Bitcoin currency and cash dispensing, has chosen Fujitsu’s PalmSecure® biometrics technology for use on all Robocoin kiosks worldwide. Robocoin and their customers will be using PalmSecure technology to positively authenticate customers on their entire global network of Robocoin ATMs.

Robocoin, the first company to deploy bitcoin kiosks, offers customers unparalleled access to their bitcoin accounts and cash in-branch locations and self-service kiosks located throughout the world. Creating an account only takes a few minutes and globally grants the account holder instant access to every branch and kiosk. Bitcoin account holders can enjoy the benefits of having safe and secure access, 24/7 using Fujitsu’s PalmSecure technology. The kiosks require three factors of authentication --- phone, PIN and palm vein --- to secure customer accounts against theft and fraud.

“We thoroughly researched other forms of authentication, including other biometric technologies, but determined that Fujitsu’s PalmSecure technology met our requirements for 100% successful enrollment and speed of authentication at point-of-service,” says Jordan Kelley, CEO, Robocoin. “PalmSecure technology for authentication also projects and is consistent with the image we want to project as an innovative company providing world-class services to our account holders.”

Robocoin’s CEO, Jordan Kelley, will be providing a keynote address at the upcoming ATM & Mobile Summit, Thursday, September 11, 2014 8:40 am – 9:45 am at the Capital Hilton Hotel, Washington, DC. The title of the keynote is: “Where are we going with the convergence of virtual currency, ATMs and Mobile Payments?”

PalmSecure technology relies on Fujitsu’s award-winning PalmSecure biometric technology. The Fujitsu PalmSecure biometric palm vein sensors use a near-infrared light to capture a user’s palm vein pattern, generating a unique biometric template that is matched against the palm vein patterns of pre-registered users. Unlike other readers, the PalmSecure device does not come into contact with the skin, making it extremely hygienic, non-intrusive and unrestricted by external factors such as skin types and conditions. Registration for PalmSecure users takes less than one minute and authentication takes less than one second.

“We are very excited that a cutting-edge company like Robocoin in the burgeoning bitcoin space would select Fujitsu’s PalmSecure biometrics technology for positive authentication of their account holders,” according to Randy Fox, vice president, currency handling and identification product solutions, Fujitsu Frontech North America Inc. “Fujitsu has a long and proven history of providing unique and innovative services and solutions to the financial industry throughout the world, including North America. Since 1983 in the United States, Fujitsu has provided ATMs and more recently industry-leading OEM bill dispensers and recyclers with the high reliability required for integration into ATMs and other cash handling devices.”

Fujitsu’s family of biometric solutions, PalmSecure sensors, PalmSecure for SSO (single sign-on) and the PalmEntry™ Physical Access Control system all utilize the award-winning technology. The palm vein device can only recognize the pattern if the blood is actively flowing within the individual’s veins, so forgery is virtually impossible. This advanced, vascular pattern recognition technology not only provides highly reliable authentication with low false accept and reject rates, but also allows for fast and easy enrollment.
