Bitmessage is the Bitcoin of online communication

We've seen the impact that Bitcoin can have on the future of payments. But money is not the only area that the movement is influencing. Bitmessage is a protocol that implements some of the ideas of Bitcoin into communications. Given the pressure on technology companies to cooperate with governments regarding services like email, those looking for a private way to communicate could find Bitmessage's concept quite interesting. We live in a time where cloud computing has become the norm for our digital services. That means that a lot of our information is actually stored in data centers....

BitMessage: A Model For A New Web 2.0?

BitMessage: A Model For A New Web 2.0? Over the past twenty years, the democratization of cryptographic technology has brought us the potential for an unprecedented level of privacy, giving the common man the ability to browse documents, have conversations, and now, with Bitcoin, send money to people around the world without even the most powerful corporations and government agencies being able to get in the way, but actual adoption of these technologies has been slow. It was once thought that PGP, the encryption tool created by Phil Zimmermann in 1991, was undoubtedly going to become....

Warning: BitmessageS.org Is Not Bitmessage... It Is A Bitcoin Phishing Attempt Targeted At Blockchain.info Users

Today, reports of spam transactions containing one Satoshi and zero fee have been sprouting like daisies. The spam transaction encourages users to visit the site BitMessageS.org (intentionally meant to be confused with BitMessage.org) where they are then prompted for their Blockchain.info wallet identifier. Within hours, the Bitcoin community has already taken steps to mitigate the potential damage by this interesting phishing attempt.....

Blockchain Commuication Could Replace Email, IM, add Trustless Security

Government surveillance has become a fact of life for anyone communicating digitally these last few years, and it’s been a bumpy transition for those that value privacy. Even with the adoption of PGP keys and VPNs, options for secure day-to-day communication are scarce. End-to-end encryption is a clunky mess for email and IM, and the commercial services that automate the process rely on the assumption that they won’t be subpoenaed or broken into. Enter BitMessage, an open source project that has re-implemented Bitcoin’s block-and-transfer system to decentralise and automate encrypted....
