Coinbase Talks 1 Million Wallet Milestone, Mt. Gox and What's Next

San Francisco-based bitcoin wallet provider Coinbase has revealed that it officially passed 1 million wallet downloads on 27th February, a major milestone in the lifecycle of the less than two-year-old company. Founded in June 2012, Coinbase is the second most downloaded consumer bitcoin wallet behind rival Blockchain, which passed its 1 million wallet mark in January. But, that doesn't make Coinbase's numbers any less impressive. At the beginning of 2013, Coinbase had facilitated just 13,000 wallet downloads, meaning it saw more than 7,000% growth over the course of 2013. Further, the....

San Francisco-based Coinbase is making the news again, and this time it's with a milestone. The company - which allows consumers to easily buy and sell bitcoin - in addition to providing merchant services, has apparently reached 1.5 million consumers wallets. That's according to the company's About page, which is seemingly updated frequently (by our observation, changes to the page are made every 1-2 weeks). When the MultiBit team was recently asked how many downloads had occurred since launch, they crunched a few numbers to reveal that the wallet had in fact been downloaded a total of 1,517,000 times since April 2011. The team pointed out: "The figures have been adjusted down to take into account various DoS attacks and are based on the overall....

Former Facebook and AOL executive Chamath Palihapitiya has updated his projection on wallet downloads in 2014. Coinbase Fast Approaching One Million Consumer Bitcoin Wallets

San Francisco-based Coinbase is growing up fast! Launched in June 2012, the company gained tremendous amounts of attention last year when the price of bitcoin started to climb more rapidly than most of us would have predicted. And it shows in the numbers. According to the company's About page, about 950,000 online consumer bitcoin wallets have been set up on the service. A snapshot from the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine dated February 7th, 2013 shows a count of 920,000 consumer wallets. That would suggest that 30,000 wallet accounts have been set up in the last week alone. Going back....
