Why CGI is Doubling Down on Ripple's Distributed Ledger Tech

It began with nine CGI employees holed up at Ripple's San Francisco headquarters. Spread out in two separate rooms, the team of engineers, developers, architects, testers and analysts worked side-by-side with the distributed ledger startup's staff for a week to integrate Ripple's DLT solutions into its infrastructure. And that was just the beginning of work that culminated at Sibos with the launch of CGI's new Ripple validator node. Revealed on Tuesday in Geneva, the validator node gives the $14.1bn company a firsthand look into how a live distributed ledger network operates, offering a....

How MIT is Using Ripple to Push Blockchain Research Beyond Theory

MIT has moved its blockchain research from the blackboard to the real world through a partnership with distributed ledger tech startup Ripple. While MIT has long been involved in supporting the bitcoin and blockchain industries through research, the aim of this project is to develop blockchain, financial services and other enterprise data projects, the university said. Project director David Shrier, of MIT Connection Science, said he expects this most recent step to attract a wide range of researchers, more than doubling in size its first six months of operation. Shrier told CoinDesk:....

Earthport Unveils World's First Distributed Ledger Hub

Earthport, known for its extensive payment network for cross-border transactions and robust ACH infrastructure, has created the world’s first Distributed Ledger Hub (DLH). The DLH service is accessed through Earthport’s Distributed Ledger Gateway, previously announced in August of 2015, and will provide full connectivity to the Ripple ecosystem, including Ripple instances, Ripple market makers, and eventually other Distributed Ledgers. Ripple had a big year in 2015. They added $32M to the war chest, created a partnership with Western Union, contributed a team member to a Fed committee, and....

Royal Bank of Canada Reveals Blockchain Remittance Trial With Ripple

Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) has revealed it is working on a new proof of concept (PoC) for distributed ledger-based remittances using technology offered by industry startup Ripple. The announcement comes via a new Deloitte Tech Trends publication in which the professional services firm discussed how it worked with RBC as it sought to better understand distributed ledger technology and how it could be applied to remittances. RBC and Ripple, Deloitte said, are now working on a "limited production" PoC with the goal of evaluating how the distributed ledger trial could impact other....

Ripple: Distributed Ledger Tech Can Save Banks 42% on Global Payments

Ripple has projected that banks that use the Ripple network and its native cryptographic token XRP for cross-border payments can save up to 42% when compared against today's options. The findings are part of a new 15-page report issued today by the distributed ledger technology (DLT) startup. Entitled “The Cost-Cutting Case for Banks”, it finds Ripple offering clarity as to the cost-savings its products can realize for the first time. Further, the report projects respondent banks using Ripple without XRP can save 33% on international payments, with savings being generated by a 65%....

The ‘Unsexy’ Way Earthport is Using Shared Ledgers for 'Blockchain' Efficiencies

"It isn't really sexy." That's how Leonard Jaramillo, VP product development at Earthport, describes the way his payment services firm is using distributed ledgers, contrasting its approach to the tech to more convoluted use cases involving QR codes or 'blockchain' technology. Jaramillo is discussing an integration of Earthport and Ripple technology that takes advantage of the efficiencies of distributed ledgers, without using a form of digital currency, or asset linked to the ledger itself. This means Earthport is using the Ripple Consensus Ledger, the company’s open-source....
