After almost a year in development, the bitcoin network is given an opportunity to pass judgment on the scalability option chosen by the Bitcoin Core client: Segregate Witnesses, a backwards-compatible network upgrade that makes a number of protocol changes. According to Segwit’s introductory speech by core developer, Pieter Wuille, segwit removes signatures from other transaction data, which “fixes malleability, allows more Script upgrades, allows fraud proofs, allows pruning blocks for historical data, improves bandwidth usage for light nodes and historical sync, and it’s P2SH compatible....
