Bitcoin Exchange BTC-e Resumes Services after Latest DDoS Attack
European bitcoin and altcoin exchange BTC-e suffered a DDoS attack earlier today, disrupting operations as the website went offline. The DDoS stream of requests began around 11 AM UTC on Thursday, with the exchange confirming the attacks via social media. The website went offline following the attacks. Any attempts to reach the bitcoin exchange’s URL returned a blank error-laden screen. It was a couple of hours before operations resumed after the attacks were mitigated, leading to the website resurfacing before exchange services were enabled again. Bitcoin exchange BTE-C has reported via its official Twitter account that it is, at this time, experiencing a DDOS (distributed denial of service) attack that may or may not be affecting all services. The uncertainty comes from the lack of explanation from BTC-E. The tweet, which only reads "DDos #btce" (pictured above), seemingly speaks for itself, however. Bitcoin exchanges are often targets of DDOS attacks, but many have learned to deal with these situations as a result of being victims multiple times (see Mt. Gox). BTCC, the Shanghai, China-based digital currency exchange, suffered a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, the company noted on Dec. 31, 2015, on Twitter. The attack hampered BTCC’s access to its APIs and other services for a period of time. Early on Thursday morning, about 5:30 AM Eastern Standard Time to be exact, the Bitcoin exchange BTC-e is reporting that they are under DDoS attack and their site is currently offline. Going to the btc-e.com website returns a white page saying “DB connect error,” so there is no more information available from BTC-e. This is the second time this year that BTC-e has been taken down in this fashion. On Jan. 7th, they also suffered a distributed denial-of-service attacks, knocking it offline for several hours before returning to full service. Similar attacks have plagued the site since 2014.....
