Life on Bitcoin Film is coming to San Francisco!

The film “Life on Bitcoin”, covering the experience of a newlywed couple struggling to live entirely on the new currency, will screen Wednesday, July 22nd at the Internet Archive in San Francisco, California.
The film is being brought to San Francisco in partnership with the San Francisco Bitcoin Meetup.

Life on Bitcoin is a successfully crowdfunded film raising both bitcoin and over $70,000 on Kickstarter to pay for production and post-production. The creators hope it will shed light on the practical strengths and early limitations of bitcoin technology.

With the goal of lasting 90 days, the Craigs began their experiment on July 23, 2013, the day they arrived home from their honeymoon. “We knew it would be challenging when we started” said Beccy Craig, “but we didn’t know what those challenges would be, or where they’d pop up. That’s what we wanted to find out.”

For the next three months, they tested Bitcoin (and their marriage) by relying solely on the crypto-currency for every expense. Before Overstock.com, Dish Network, CheapAir, Expedia, Dell, and Microsoft accepted the digital currency, Austin and Beccy lived on bitcoin for 100 days. They persuaded gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants and literally dozens of businesses to accept the fledgling currency. Their adventure took them to Europe and Asia. They also got stranded, went hungry and endured the trials and frustrations of being dedicated early adopters.

“It felt like learning to swim by jumping in the deep end of the pool” added Austin Craig.
The film is intended for the “bitcoin-curious” as well as the veteran bitcoiner, so bring a date!

TIME: Doors open for mixing, networking and refreshments at 6:30 PM. Seating begins at 8:15. The Internet Archive has large auditorium windows letting in natural light. The film will begin after sunset at 8:30.
