KnC Miner, Slush Pool & BitFury at Odds Over Block Size Increase

Three of the biggest Western mining pools – representing a total of some 19% of hashing power on the Bitcoin network – stand divided on raising the block size limit. An inquiry by CoinTelegraph has shown that both KnCMiner and Slush Pool are in favor of Gavin Andresen's proposal(s) to raise this limit. But the biggest of the three, BitFury, is more conservative. As such, a network-wide switch to Bitcoin XT to allow for bigger blocks seems even more unlikely, for now. Lacking consensus among Core developers on how and when to raise the block size limit, former lead developer Gavin Andresen....

Slush Pool to Re-Enable BIP 101 Bitcoin Mining

Slush Pool, a Czech-based Bitcoin mining pool accounting for 6 percent of hashing power on the Bitcoin network, indicates it will re-enable connected miners to vote for a block-size increase through BIP (Bitcoin Improvement Proposal) 101. Slush Pool was the first mining pool on the Bitcoin network to allow miners to vote for BIP 101, but recently suspended this option due to sustained DDoS attacks on its servers. Speaking to Bitcoin Magazine, Slush Pool operator Marek Palatinus said: "We're strengthening our infrastructure and we plan to enable BIP 101 mining again." The block-size dispute....

Slush Pool to Let Hashers Vote on Segregated Witness Activation: “Mining Pools Should Remain Neutral”

Bitcoin’s oldest mining pool, Slush Pool, will let its miners vote on the Segregated Witness soft fork proposed by Bitcoin Core. By passing this choice down to individual miners that connect to the pool (sometimes also referred to as “hashers”) Slush Pool hopes to remove itself as a decision maker from the equation. Speaking to Bitcoin Magazine, Slush Pool operator Marek “Slush” Palatinus stated: “Satoshi’s idea was not to have a few entities control the network. As a mining pool we shouldn’t rule.” Segregated Witness. Mining pools offer Bitcoin miners a solution to combine their hash....

‘1 in a billion’: Second tiny miner solves a block

Each of the lucky miners will take home over $266k, as well as bragging rights to overcoming “one in several billion odds.” In an astonishing turn of events, two lucky miners from the Solo CK mining pool have defied all odds and added a new block on the Bitcoin blockchain in the same week. On Monday, a tiny miner successfully solved a block with a modest hash rate capacity of 126 terahashes per second (TH/s). Bitcoin mining expert and member of the Bitcoin Mining Council Hass McCook told Cointelegraph at the time that the odds of this happening were 1 in 1,400,000.But according to a Jan 13....

Bitfury Announces Support for Bitcoin Classic & 2MB Block Size

Leading Bitcoin Blockchain infrastructure provider and transaction processing company BitFury has announced their support for 2 megabyte block size increase with Bitcoin Classic. As the world’s largest mining pools, companies, and experts are beginning to strongly engage in the implementation of Bitcoin Classic, the community predicts the majority of miners to support the 2 megabyte proposal in the upcoming weeks. “BitFuryGroup – the largest private miner and security provider is ready to move forward and support 2MB increase with Bitcoin Classic,” announced BitFury Group co-founder and....

Yet another solo Bitcoin miner solved a valid block, earning a reward worth o...

Mining bitcoin without any help from a larger pool has become an increasingly-improbable feat over the last decade. Another Bitcoin (BTC) miner from the Solo CK mining pool has solo mined a new block on the Bitcoin blockchain, earning a block reward of 6.25 BTC (over $220,000 at current prices) as a result. The event took place on Monday at a block height of 720,175.Solo mining consists of attempting to validate blocks by a single miner, without teaming efforts with other miners on a mining pool, and running a full blockchain node. Without significant hashing capabilities, the odds of....
