Litecoin and ASICS: Effect on Market
We all know that Scrypt ASICS are now available for purchase, and miners have been hashing away at Scrypt coins, leaving GPU miners to scramble to under algorithms, most popular being Scrypt-n and x-11. Scrypt ASICS may have also had a negative effect on prices, for Darkcoin and Vertcoin. Darkcoin is the most popular X11 coin, and Vertcoin is the most popular Scrypt-n coin, so it’s logical to assume that is where most GPU miners flocked to. For example, take a look at what happened to Darkcoin. At a current market weighted average of 0.0098 BTC, this is the lowest it has been in 2 months,....

An ASIC is an Application Specific Integrated Circuit. They are specially designed pieces of hardware for performing the Litecoin hashing algorithms necessary to mine a specific coin and verify hashed transactions. These pieces of hardware are designed and manufactured to perform necessary hashing and nothing else. With the increasing valuation of Bitcoin, in fiat terms, the economic viability of ASICs begun to make sense some time ago. The development of ASICs to do SHA256 became a reality. There were issues along the way with bringing them to market, but ASICs have arrived. With the....
There has been a lot of rumors and speculation if coin developers of scrypt coins should hard fork their coins to try and block the influx of ASIC's and protect GPU mining. The development team for Litecoin has released a statement on theLitecoinTalk forum. While the Pro and Con lists can be long and convoluted, there are two main Pro's and Con's that I think of when I look at this issue. Litecoin. The Pro's of forking a coin would be GPU miners would not find their investments in their mining gear obsolete like they did when the SHA-256 ASICs hit the Bitcoin world. GPU rigs are costly,....
Bitcoin mining on a standard GPU is a thing of the past. Put simply: it's no longer economically viable, given the power consumption of discrete graphics cards and their relatively high price. ASICs are a no-brainer when it comes to bitcoin, however litecoin is a different story. Unlike its counterpart, litecoin can still be mined using off-the-shelf hardware, namely via AMD Radeon graphics cards. There aren't that many alternatives, either. There are still no ASIC products for scrypt, litecoin's algorithm, and this will not change for the next few months at least. It is rumoured that....
MAT Bitcoin ASIC 6TH/s. Netherlands based company Mining Asics Technologies B. V. (MAT) today announced it would start taking pre-orders for a new range of Scrypt ASIC miners. MAT is one of the first companies to introduce a wave of powerful new Bitcoin Asic miners and Scrypt ASIC miners for Dogecoin, Auroracoin, Feathercoin, Litecoin and other scrypt cryptocurrencies. Pre-orders are open from 12 March 2014. Standalone Scrypt ASICs. All of MAT's ASICs are standalone embedded application devices featuring a Linux operating system running CGminer. The devices can be configured via webGUI....
Litecoin is once again experiencing losses following bitcoin's movements. The 24hr loss neared 4% and the litecoin price sunk to $1.69 from $1.76. The litecoin market seems to briefly have taken the upward turn once again though as the price is currently recovering from the daily lows. Bitcoin and litecoin, are their prices going hand by hand? As always, it's clear that bitcoin played a role in the recent movements that litecoin price took. While the patterns noticed in the charts can't really be described as identical, litecoin has been known for staying true to the direction that....
