The end of an era has been reached. The final Silk Road bitcoin auction took place on Thursday, November 5th and unfortunately, the results couldn’t be more disappointing. Much like “Lost,” “Dexter” and “The X-Files,” this exciting series administered and organized by the US Marshals Service (USMS) has delivered a real flop for its finale, with a mere eleven participants placing bets and going through the motions. This marks the lowest number of bidders since the second auction that took place nearly a year ago in December of 2014.

The US Marshals Service (USMS) has revealed it is likely to auction off any remaining bitcoins confiscated from convicted Silk Road mastermind Ross Ulbricht sometime in 2015. In total, the USMS seized more than 144,000 BTC (then worth $122m) from Ulbricht in late 2013 along with 29,655 BTC held in wallets on the online black market at the time of its closure. The fourth and final US Marshals (USMS) auction of bitcoins confiscated during the investigation into online black market Silk Road drew only 11 bidders today, the lowest total since the second auction held in December 2014. The government agency indicated that 11 registered bidders submitted a total of 30 bids on 22 blocks of bitcoins during today's auction. Twenty-one of the blocks were for 2,000 BTC (valued at $790,000 at press time), while the final block included 2,341 BTC (roughly $926,200).
