Ethereum's high gas fee crisis won't be solved by EIP-1559: Coin Metrics report

Consistently full blocks are the primary reason that gas prices have reached all-time highs. A report by analytics provider Coin Metrics has delved into the world of Ethererum transaction fees noting that they’re still at highest-ever levels and even a much touted approaching network upgrade is unlikely to alleviate the problem.According to the Ethereum Gas Report by Coin Metrics, median fees on Ethereum have been consistently over $10 for most of 2021. Comparatively, the average Ethereum transaction fee reached just $5.70 at the height of the 2017/2018 bull run.It attributed some of this....

Ethereum Improvement Proposal 1559: Is the squeeze worth the juice?

What the planned EIP-1559 could mean for Ethereum, DeFi and miners. Ethereum Improvement Proposal 1559, set to be bundled together with the “London” upgrade in July, has caused as much excitement as fear and panic. On the surface, EIP-1559 is nothing more than a change in Ethereum’s gas fee structure. And to spice it up, it has also been labeled as Ethereum’s scarcity engine, or burn mechanism, as it will destroy Ether (ETH) used in transaction fees, making the cryptocurrency deflationary, and perhaps more valuable down the line. Related: Ethereum at a crossroads: Ether community turmoil....

Ethereum After 1559: Network Nears 2 Million ETH Burned Worth Over $6.9 Billion

Approximately 205 days ago, the Ethereum network upgraded via the London hard fork which implemented the packaged Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) 1559. Since then, the EIP-1559 upgrade made it so a fraction of gas is destroyed during the transaction process and to date, 1,915,220 ether has been burned worth over $6.9 billion using today’s exchange rates. Ethereum Burn Rate Inches Closer to 2 Million Burned, 3.57 Ether Is Burned Every Minute The Ethereum (ETH) network has burned approximately 1,915,220 ethereum and the metric is nearing the two million mark. Ethereum miners are hoarding a record $70B in ETH following EIP-1559 activation

The Ethereum block producers accumulated $6.1 billion worth of ETH tokens after the Aug. 5 network upgrade. An on-chain study released by Kraken Intelligence highlighted strong accumulation behavior among Ethereum miners even as they faced the prospects of generating lower revenue following a major network upgrade on Aug. 5, 2021.Ethereum miners accumulated an additional 2 million Ether (ETH) worth $6.1 billion after the so-called London Hard Fork's activation. The latest bout of accumulation caused miners' net Ether holdings to hit an all-time high of 22.3 million ETH (worth nearly $70....

Nvidia: Ethereum’s PoS Upgrade Will Set Back Graphics Card Demand

As Ethereum’s transition to EIP-1559 and Ethereum 2.0 loom ever closer, discussions over the future of GPU mining have swept over the crypto mining community. If EIP-1559 fails to bring down Ethereum’s obscenely high transaction costs and thus drive Ethereum mining obsolete, the shift to proof-of-stake certainly will. While these thoughts are a dime a […]
