Password-stealing malware is being spread by hackers through NFT airdrops purporting to be Solana Phantom security updates. Ledger customers are receiving fake wallets by mail to steal their cryptocurrency. A user in Reddit reported receiving a suspicious package that claimed to be mailed by Ledger. The community supporting OpalCoin, an anonymous cryptocurrency offering decentralized storage, was recently under siege of a fake-wallet attack. A hacker stole almost 17% of the coin supply, most of which has been recovered. The Opal team announced the hack on the Bitcoin Talk forums on December 15th. According to an Apple Insider report published on August 9, a disturbing trend has emerged on Apple’s App Store as a series of malicious copycats of well-known Bitcoin wallet apps became available to download.
