Bitstamp Suffers Banking Software Issue and Site Downtime

Bitstamp CEO Nejc Kodrič has been in touch to say he was incorrect in his earlier statement, which revealed the site was under a DDoS attack. He now says the site merely experienced a "network issue". The company has upgraded its server capabilities and ordered additional servers to triple the power of the network, which will be delivered on Monday. "We have been DDoS-ed today and yesterday. BTC-E Reports DDOS Attack

Bitcoin exchange BTE-C has reported via its official Twitter account that it is, at this time, experiencing a DDOS (distributed denial of service) attack that may or may not be affecting all services. The uncertainty comes from the lack of explanation from BTC-E. The tweet, which only reads "DDos #btce" (pictured above), seemingly speaks for itself, however. Bitcoin exchanges are often targets of DDOS attacks, but many have learned to deal with these situations as a result of being victims multiple times (see Mt. Gox). Bitcoin exchange BTC-e has confirmed it is processing bitcoin withdrawals. Bitstamp has revealed it plans to start processing its customers' bitcoin withdrawals again later today.
