BitMonet unveils free bitcoin paywall function for publishers
Payment processor BitPay is working with an open source project called BitMonet to enable microtransactions for publishers. The project allows publishers to install paywalls on their web sites, charging for access to digital content using a variety of models. Started by Bo Li, Ankur Nandwani, and designer Valerie Chao, the project was conceived at the Bitcoin 2013 conference in May. The BitMonet system is different from other microtransaction systems such as Coinbox.me or Coinbase's microtransaction service says Ankur, because it focuses on a particular vertical industry - publishing -....

This is an interesting open-source project out there I've read about on Reddit that seems pretty interesting for those who are in the web publishing business. It's Bitmonet, and with minimal amout of code, publishers (small and large) can charge for their content (sad face), charging Bitcoins as opposed to, well, fiat. Options include charging per post, per hour, and day pass, according to the site's demo, effectively allowing publishers to create passes to content. Would you use this service for your own website?

As planned, the Chicago Sun-Times has put in place a paywall, as originally reported in January. The paywall, which isn't much of a paywall at all, to be honest, is a 24-hour testing trial that allows users to donate bitcoin to the Taproot Foundation. Users are able to "donate" a tweet or donate bitcoins in the amount of their choosing. But a donation is not required to view Sun-Times content, at this time. San Francisco-based bitcoin paywall company BitWall is behind this, and the Sun-Times has become the start-up's biggest client thus far. The trial is designed to provide both the....
