Bitcoin Price Sees Slight Drop in Last 12 Hours
Things we definitely looking promising on Tuesday when the price per bitcoin had gone past the $1000 USD mark at the Mt. Gox exchange. But the excitement, alas, was short lived. On Wednesday, the bitcoin market saw a small slump, dropping right back past the $1000 mark to a low of $877. At the time of this writing, the price at Mt. Gox is about $944, and $910 at Bitstamp (which is a better metric for the price of bitcoin because traders can actually withdraw USD from bitstamp in a reasonable timeframe). With that, there's absolutely no telling where this is going. We'll keep you updated....

Bitcoin’s mining difficulty saw the second-largest drop in history on Tuesday, as the difficulty dropped to 16.78 trillion, losing a touch over 16% since last week’s all-time difficulty high. The last time bitcoin’s mining difficulty dropped so low was in October 2011, when it lost around 18%. Since the large difficulty drop took place, the overall SHA256 hashrate increased a great deal after losing 40% during the last week of October.
