Bitcoin Privacy Extension Zerocoin to Morph Into Its Own Altcoin

It was last year when a project by the name of Zerocoin came about. First designed to be a proposed privacy extension built atop the already widely-used bitcoin digital currency, Zerocoin has decided to take things to the next level by morphing into its own altcoin. The news was announced by John Hopkins University cryptography professor Matthew Green today at the Real World Crypto conference in New York. Green says that Zerocoins will enter circulation in May, when Zerocoin enters a beta period. Much like bitcoin, Zerocoin will have its own blockchain and miners, but it will also have the....

'Zerocoin' widget promises Bitcoin privacy

Researchers at Johns Hopkins University are proposing a cryptographic extension to bitcoin that could enable fully anonymous transactions on the network. The extension, called Zerocoin, works - as NewScientist explains it - by "allowing bitcoin users to leave their coins floating on the network for someone else to redeem, on the condition that they can redeem the same amount of bitcoin, similarly left floating on the network, at an arbitrary time in the future." "Anyone can put bitcoins in, and anyone else can take one out," Johns Hopkins researcher Matt Green says. "The anonymity comes....

Vertcoin Developer Paul Bradley Talks Zerocoin, ASIC Resistance, and More

Vertcoin does not think Zerocoin implementation would be a good move. Over the past few weeks, there have been rumors that Vertcoin could soon implement a variation of Zerocoin to enhance privacy and anonymity in this particular cryptocurrency. I recently talked with Paul Bradley, one of the developers of Vertcoin, to clear the air on what kinds of features we are going to see added to Vertcoin in the near future. While Bradley stated Zerocoin implementation is probably off the table due to the negatives outweighing the positives, there are are still a few privacy-enhancing features that....
