Ben Lawsky: Friend or Foe? It's a question CoinDesk recently posed regarding the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) superintendent, and one that is understandably concerning to the wider virtual currency community as New York state seeks to enact regulation in 2014. Speculation aside, on 20th February, the bitcoin community got its chance to seek an answer when Lawsky participated in a much-anticipated Ask Me Anything session on reddit. Ben Lawsky may have a chat with /r/bitcoin in the near future. Ben Lawsky, Superintendent of Financial Services for the State of New York, recently tweeted that he will try to do a Reddit AMA on Bitcoin regulation in the near future. A simple reminder that New York State Department of Financial Services Superintendent Benjamin Lawsky has begun to answer questions on social sharing website Reddit.com. The AMA (ask-me-anything), which is taking place here, is expected to focus on Lawsky's work to regulate bitcoin and bitcoin businesses in the State of New York. Though no major policy developments were announced this week, the highlight seemed to be New York's Financial Services Superintendent Benjamin Lawsky agreeing to a request for a public question and answer session ("ask me anything") with users of online content aggregator Reddit. Though many users were clearly skeptical of Lawsky's answers and anxious about Bitcoin regulation, the tone of thediscussion was somewhat more positive than the public flogging of Lawsky that might have been expected. If you don't care to read the entire thread for yourself, Lawsky's comments could be summarized....
