The Bitcoin Field Puzzle
Time for another brain burner! This puzzle is based on my game Tau (2011). TAU was evolved from another game of mine called OMEGA (2010) as a tool to help me teach my students how to multiply in binary base. It exploits a mechanic called 'multiplicative scoring'. Let's start by drawing a square grid of any size (10x10, for example) and filling it with....

What makes Bitcoin transactions secure and trustworthy? Computer security and cryptography expert Zulfikar Ramzan explains the workings of the transaction blockchain in this video, one of a series that are featured on the online learning site Khan Academy. Understanding the transaction blockchain, Ramzan says, helps to illustrate "how somebody might try to game or defraud the system and why that's not only mathematically hard to do but why there's actually an incentive -- actually an economic incentive in the Bitcoin system -- for different people to behave honestly." That incentive comes....
Time to have fun solving some puzzles! This post was released for Issue 12 of Bitcoin Magazine as the first one of a series of articles about puzzles and games. A new logic puzzle was taking shape. This puzzle evolved into my second published game....
The Earth is exposed to magnetic field disruptions or changes. Solar winds carry a magnetic field with it which sometimes break through the Earth’s magnetic field, causing disruptions on our planet. Another phenomenon affecting magnetism is the flipping of north and south poles. Alarmingly, the rate of Earth’s magnetic field flipping is now increasing.....
Kolin Burges asking Karpeles for his Bitcoin. "The Two-Bit-Idiot," who leaked the original document blowing the lid off MtGox, has declared via Tumblr to have "all of the pieces to the Mt. Gox puzzle," which depicts MtGox as having "acted alone and in desperation." The fact that MtGox had no buyers lined up to shoulder the burden of their mistakes demonstrates the degree to which MtGox and Mark Karpeles are even bigger frauds than many in the community (myself included) had anticipated. What is left to find out is when Karpeles knew his exchange had failed, and to what extent he went to....
