Congresswoman Velázquez: Small Businesses "Recognizing The Promise of Accepting Bitcoins"
Congresswoman Velázquez. Representative Nydia M. Velázquez (D-New York) today made remarks with relation to bitcoin at a House Committee on Small Business hearing entitled Bitcoin: Examining the Benefits and Risks for Small Business. I'm not going to fill this post up with fluff and a full-on analysis that really just restates what the Congresswoman said. I think it's best read as a transcript. Dr J Anthony Allen, CEO of the Minneapolis-based music production school Slam Academy, said bitcoin payments at his business have been "very successful," yet Slam Academy has seen just one customer pay with the digital currency since Allen began accepting it in November of....
New York's Superintendent of Financial Services, Benjamin M. Lawsky, has issued a public order that confirms the state is now accepting applications for digital currency exchanges. Perhaps most notably, however, was that Lawsky indicated that these businesses will be regulated under new New York regulation, which he committed to having in place by the end of the second quarter of 2014. In his remarks, Lawsky struck his usual balance of at once recognizing the promise of digital currencies and stressing that related business activities need to be conducted in a responsible and lawful....
In Bitcoin, the promise of a limited supply is great.
