Blockchain.info Services Down Due to DDoS Attacks
A number of users have taken to social media to report issues with their Blockchain.info wallets on Monday. The reason, according to Blockchain, relates to what has been described as "higher than usual traffic volumes due to DDoS [distributed denial of service] attacks" on the company's servers. AntPool, BW.com, NiceHash, CKPool and GHash.io are among a number of bitcoin mining pools and operations that have been hit by distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attacks in recent days. The incidents appear to have begun in the first week of March. For example, on 11th March, AntPool owner Bitmain sent an email to customers disclosing the DDOS attacks and advising external pool users to set up failsafe pools in the event of an outage. Bitcoin exchange BTE-C has reported via its official Twitter account that it is, at this time, experiencing a DDOS (distributed denial of service) attack that may or may not be affecting all services. The uncertainty comes from the lack of explanation from BTC-E. The tweet, which only reads "DDos #btce" (pictured above), seemingly speaks for itself, however. BTCC, the Shanghai, China-based digital currency exchange, suffered a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, the company noted on Dec. 31, 2015, on Twitter. The attack hampered BTCC’s access to its APIs and other services for a period of time. As if we did not have enough Bitcoin associated-DDoS attacks in 2015, the coming year may see the number turn three-fold as automation of such attacks increases. The startling prediction has been made by a Hudson-based DDoS protection solutions provider Corero Network Security (LSE: CNS).
