There's Now an Open Source Coinbase App for iOS Available on the App Store

Great news, Coinbase users. An open-source variant of the Coinbase app for iOS is now available from Apple's App Store - just over seven months after the official application was mysteriously pulled by Apple. The app is using the Coinbase API to make a connection to the service, but before you begin worrying, both Olaf Carlson-Wee and another staff member chimed into a Reddit thread noting that the app is the real deal, though it hasn't been officially released by Coinbase themselves. "We are happy to see this community effort based on our open API! We have reached out to the developer to....

Apple Kills Coinbase App from iOS App Store

In what could probably only be described as a short-lived adventure, Apple has killed the official Coinbase application from the iOS App Store. The app, launched in late October, allowed users to buy, sell, and keep the app as an online wallet. At this time, it is unclear just why Apple removed the app, but it obviously has something to do with violation of App Store rules. Unfortunately, Apple tends to be sketchy on this front, and even developers are left with their mouths open: "The app initially got rejected multiple times, for many different reasons (not related to the quality of the....

Coinbase Announces Toshi: The Open Source Bitcoin Node For Developers

BitPay isn't the only company having some fun with open source projects. San Francisco-based Coinbase announced Wednesday the launch of a new project called Toshi (most likely after Satoshi Nakamoto, bitcoin's creator). Toshi is an open source bitcoin node designed for developers. In short, the software makes it simpler for developers to build their web applications, and it's 100 percent compatible with Bitcoin Core. Or as Coinbase says, Toshi is an API to query blockchain data. It's written in Ruby, and it's using the PostgreSQL database. Developers will find that querying blockchain data....
