CCN Reveals: Timeline of KncMiner's Struggle With the 20nm ASIC Bitcoin Miners
Original Neptune announcement image. KnCMiner has previously received a lot of attention as the first "legitimate" Bitcoin ASIC manufacturer especially after the BFL fiasco, but has this once widely-touted company lost its touch and turned to the dark side? Editor's Note: KnCMiner's CMO, Nanok Bie, has reached out to CCN to clarify that no Neptunes are being used in their datacenter. Furthermore, he clarified that KnCMiner's 5% of total network hashrateincludes the hashratethat they sell in contracts; that is to say, KnCMiner makes less than $3.6 million USD a month from mining. He also....

KnCMiner says it has finalized the design of what should be the world's first 20nm bitcoin ASIC miner. The company is still not saying much about the upcoming ASIC or the rollout schedule, it merely states that the 'tape-out' was achieved only three months after starting the project. The actual tape-out happened sometime in February. In electronics, a tape-out is the last stage of the design cycle for an integrated circuit. KnCMiner teamed up with Alchip and Advanced Semiconductors Technology (AST) to design and produce the chip. The company points out that its first generation ASICs were....
The date is November 26th, 2013 and KnCMiner, the Swedish ASIC Mining company has announced their newest line of 20nm ASIC miners for pre-order. Currently, only previous customers can pre-order these new miners and they won't be available to the public for another three weeks. Read CoinDesk's coverage here. KnCMiner's marketing model is conservative. It publishes nominal specifications for its devices ahead of time, with the caveat that these will probably be at the low end, and that real-world performance will be higher. It promised 400GH/sec for its 28nm Jupiter device, which eventually....
Cryptocurrency mining hardware designer KnCMiner is planning to deploy its next generation bitcoin ASICs in early 2015. The Swedish company announced that its upcoming Solar ASIC will be manufactured on the new 16nm FinFET node, allowing for significant performance and efficiency gains. In a statement, the company said that it would be relying on solutions developed by its engineering team, noting: "The 16nm process represents a step change in processing capability as we're using several proprietary techniques developed in-house to reach speeds an order of magnitude above today's levels."....
J-J's broken KnCMiner Super Jupiter. KnCMiner has started shipping a 3 TH/s Bitcoin mining box, the largest single Bitcoin ASIC miner in existence at the moment. The unfortunate part, though, is that none of these KnCMiner Super Jupiters arrived at their destination in one piece. KnCMiner has responded promptly on their forum, promising to ship new, properly constructed, units to affected customers, free of charge. KnCMiner also emphasized that customers needing to RMA their Super Jupiter would not have to pay return shipping on the existing $10,000 “machine” that was shipped to them; they....
Swedish cryptocurrency mining hardware developer KnCMiner has announced that it has received the first batch of Neptune ASICs, which are the world's first 20nm mining ASIC designs. The company said in a 17th June blog post that this initial batch is currently undergoing testing and optimization. The first products based on the new chips are expected to ship this week, it added. KnCMiner also announced that its preliminary estimates on hashing output and power consumption were accurate, stating: "We've reached our initial targets on speed and power consumption. But, as this is the first day....
