Dogecoin to Merge-Mine with Litecoin

After months of battling a looming low hashrate on the horizon, Dogecoin developers have decided it is in the currency's best interest to merge-mine with Litecoin using Auxillary Proof-of-Work (AuxPoW). Technically all Scrypt coins with a higher difficulty than Dogecoin will be merge-mined, but only Litecoin holds that criteria making the verbiage on merge-mining clear. Although many in the Dogecoin community wish to break themselves away from the "merge-mining" verb usage, what's true is true. If Litecoin were to disappear tomorrow, AuxPoW would still be in effect for Dogecoin. Until....

Dogecoin Community Celebrates as Merge Mining with Litecoin Begins

Dogecoin has officially switched to auxiliary proof-of-work (AuxPoW) mining. The update now enables litecoin miners to process transactions, while providing an additional layer of security to the decentralized network. The altcoin's switch to auxiliary proof-of-work, also known as merge mining, has been in the works for some time. AuxPoW enables the dogecoin block chain to receive work from other scrypt-based networks. Dogecoin miners will still be able to generate blocks and receive DOGE, but now, litecoin miners will contribute hashing power to the dogecoin network. The move, announced on the dogecoin subreddit, follows a months-long period of community debate focusing on the question of long-term viability in the dogecoin....

Market Analysis: Reawakening

If you’re not already following the markets, you may be at first confused of what I mean by “reawakening”. Essentially two of the biggest market movers this week were two coins that seemed to be slipping in market position, then made some serious numbers all of a sudden. These two coins of course are Dogecoin and Blackcoin. Dogecoins sudden increase of price most people chalk up to Dogecoin finally being able to merge mine with Litecoin through auxPow. Essentially shares from a high enough network hashrate also will work with Dogecoin, so now Litecoin miners will be receiving Dogecoin as....

Litecoin Reaches a Milestone - 1TH/s

According to the Liteshack, the Litecoin network hash rate reached 1TH/s, the equivalent of 1PH/s in Bitcoin (on GPUs), which was a milestone heralded as the arrival of Bitcoin. This comes on the heels of the merge mining of Dogecoin and Litecoin. In an effort to survive, Dogecoin has switched to an auxiliary proof-of-work.
