Remember the interesting news item this year that all MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) undergraduate students would received $100 of bitcoin for free? Well, we haven't heard a whole lot about it, but the project has officially gone live. It's spearheaded by the MIT Bitcoin Project and somewhat mysteriously financed, but the 4500+ students at the school are able to easily pick up their bitcoins, which they can then convert to U. MIT Undergrads Can Now Claim Their Free $100 in Bitcoin

Half a million dollars-worth of bitcoin is being given away to undergraduates at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as part of a scheme to encourage use and awareness of the digital currency. From yesterday, each MIT undergrad became eligible to claim $100 in bitcoin (0.290272 BTC at press time) by completing a survey hosted by The MIT Bitcoin Project, the student organisation that is organising the giveaway. Over 20,000 Students Receive Bitcoin in Coinbase Giveaway

Coinbase has already handed out free bitcoin to over 20,000 students as part of its college bitcoin giveaway, the company says. The bitcoin wallet and payments provider launched the scheme on 14th May, giving students who sign up the equivalent of $10 in bitcoin. Not all students are eligible, however - only those with .edu addresses can apply and a limited number of universities can participate.
