Vertcoin Announces Hardfork to Implement Lyra2RE

Vertcoin recently announced the hardfork to implement Lyra2RE - a NIST5 based chain algorithm designed to resist ASIC mining. As per the available reports, the new POW algorithm will be executed approximately on December 16th at block 208301. The Vertcoin users are already provided with all the necessary download links of Linux binaries, source core, Python module, etc. on the coin's website to ensure a smooth execution of Lyra2RE. Users will also be required to upgrade their current wallets, which will be launched alongside the new algorithm. Why Lyra2RE? The reason behind the Vertcoin....

Vertcoin Introduces New POW Algorithm, Promises ASIC-Free Features

Vertcoin developers recently released a whitepaper that describes a roadmap to their new POW algorithm - Lyra2RE. As mentioned in the paper, Lyra2RE is a NIST5 based chain algorithm whose sole aim is to reduce miners' dependency on ASIC machines. The proposed algorithm somewhat adds up to the "anti-ASIC" campaign Vertcoin launched alongside its release in January 2014. The coin's development team therefore has a strong emphasis on implementing Lyra2E over their previous POW algorithm Scrypt-N. The latter's ASICs are already available in the market. Lyra2RE takes inspiration from the....

Vertcoin Developer Paul Bradley Talks Zerocoin, ASIC Resistance, and More

Vertcoin does not think Zerocoin implementation would be a good move. Over the past few weeks, there have been rumors that Vertcoin could soon implement a variation of Zerocoin to enhance privacy and anonymity in this particular cryptocurrency. I recently talked with Paul Bradley, one of the developers of Vertcoin, to clear the air on what kinds of features we are going to see added to Vertcoin in the near future. While Bradley stated Zerocoin implementation is probably off the table due to the negatives outweighing the positives, there are are still a few privacy-enhancing features that....

Another Anti-ASIC Cryptocurrency Launched

Days after Vertcoin forked its network to implement an anti-ASIC algorithm Lyra2RE, another cryptocurrency with similar objectives was launched. Named as Kryptohash, the new altcoin is promising new features against ASIC mining, one among which is a brand new POW algorithm. KSHAKE320 - The New POW Algorithm. The new algorithm is aiming to reduce mining costs by completely eradicating ASICs from the picture. A small description of KSHAKE320 describes it as a "new Proof-Of-Work algorithm (POW) based on the Keccak-F 1600 Sponge function in a mode called Extendable-Output (a.k.a. SHAKE).....

Vertcoin Community Uneasy With Developer Silence: Developers Release iOS Vertcoin Wallet

Editor's Note: Vertcoin Development team has released a new update last night, just after this article was originally published with the title: "Vertcoin Community Uneasy With Developer Silence." In the digital currency community, transparency is one of the foundations of the movement. While the Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto remains anonymous, this is not normally the case with most altcoins in current circulation. With the Vertcoin markets currently dipping down, the community is calling for more communication from its developers who have recently fallen silent. CCN. "As a miner and....

Vertcoin: ASICs Beware!

If you have heard of the ominous Titan from KNC capable of hashing at 300 mh/s on scrypt, or perhaps the gridseeds or any other scrypt asics, a algorithm that was designed to be anti-asic and you’re a miner, you are most likely searching for the next coin to mine. Take Vertcoin into consideration as that coin. Here are some Vertcoin coin specifications. Vetcoins has a 84 million Vertcoin max coin supply with block times of 2 and a half minutes, 50 coin block rewards, KGW difficulty adjustment to discourage multipools, and block halving every 4 years or so. But where it really shines is its....
