BitFlyer has closed a fundraising round of 130m JPY ($1.1m), led by Barry Silbert's Bitcoin Opportunity Corp, Recruit Holdings Ltd. subsidiary RSP Fund No. 5 and GMO Venture Partners. This is bitFlyer's third round of funding, bringing the Japan-based bitcoin services firm's total investment to $2.93m since it launched in early 2014. Bloomberg reports that Japanese bitcoin exchange BitFlyer has raised approximately 25 million yen (or about $236,000 USD) from Barry Silbert's Bitcoin Opportunity Corp. Japanese exchange Bitflyer has announced a 50 million Yen investment into a new fund which will see Osaka-based IoT startup Sivira as the first company to benefit from the fund. According to the exchange, this is in an effort to support and encourage the growth of blockchain businesses in Japan. Bitflyer has termed this new investment activity, “Block Chain Angel Fund.” Even though this is Bitflyer’s first investment of this type, it sounds as though it will not be their last. A few days ago, GMO Internet announced plans to allow GMO's 48,532 Japanese merchants to accept Bitcoin by November of this year. GMO Internet's payment solution, the GMO Payment Gateway, will soon have Bitcoin functionality alongside credit card and bank transfer options.
