In a bid to gain wider acceptance, the Darkcoin development team, headed by creator Evan Duffield, is presently considering a complete re-branding effort. The new name is supposed to be short for "digital cash," while at the same time the name is meant to play on the instant transaction feature implemented in the most recent stable version of Darkcoin. Duffield posted to the Darkcoin community forums yesterday afternoon: I am very happy with the way....

The Darkcoin foundation is presently working on a complete rebranding of Darkcoin. Evan Duffield has announced that this rebranding is an essential move towards achieving the designed project's goals: I no longer feel the name Darkcoin reflects the true essence of the project and have decided to rebrand our product. The foundation considers that Bitcoin is now the only cryptographic currency that poses a significant risk of eventually being controlled by over-reaching governments and other entities and fears that its original goals are already compromised. So, the team has been building....
Since early in 2013, Darkcoin has been a permanent fixture in the daily digital currency news. From Darkcoin's initial meteoric rise, quickly reaching a USD value of $15, to the level of security and innovation it provides for privacy seekers, to the failures and triumphs of the "Masternode Network", Darkoin has been almost as interesting and intriguing as Bitcoin itself. Exchange Bitfinex platform has added new markets for dash, the digital currency that has seen big price moves this week. The addition is actually the second time the exchange has listed the currency, formerly known as darkcoin. That original listing, too, came during darkcoin's 2014 market ramp, according to data from CoinMarketCap. Bitfinex said today that it is launching new trading pairs for the currency, denominated in USD and bitcoin. This week's price rise around dash –....
The last few months have demonstrated that Bitcoin is really, really not anonymous. Take, for example, Aleš Janda's website WalletExplorer. Janda's site claims to accurately identify not only individual addresses, but the entire wallets (composed of hundreds or even thousands of addresses) used by big names like BTCJam, Silk Road and Silk Road 2, Satoshi Dice, BitPay, BitcoinFog, and dozens more. Silly me. I thought that generating new addresses – practicing what's called “Bitcoin hygiene” – prevented this sort of thing. “But if you have nothing to hide, why do you need privacy?” Whether....
Readers may be aware that Dash, formerly Darkcoin, has a system of what they refer to as "Masternodes," which are full nodes that receive part of the mining reward in return for confirming transactions far quicker than certain other cryptocurrencies. Unlike full nodes in Bitcoin, a Dash masternode requires a collateral investment of 1000 Dash, or over $2,000 USD at current rates. Recently, the Dash community raised the question as to whether this network of nodes could be utilized for other purposes. Specifically, whether or not it would be useful to utilize the network of full nodes to....
