Coinbase App Update Enables Mobile Sign Up
Coinbase has updated its iOS and Android apps to enable new users in the US to enroll via their mobile phones or tablets. Previously, users could only sign up for the service and link their bank accounts via a desktop browser. The app improvements follow statements made by Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong at the time of the company's $75m Series C fundraising, when he said development of the company's mobile product was to be a key focus this year. A new service hopes to bring mobile bitcoin payments to the masses. The service, called Bits, has already demonstrated bitcoin payments made via text message from one mobile phone to another.
