21 Inc Pledges Support to Bitcoin's Vanishing Nodes
21 Inc, the best-funded company in bitcoin, has pledged to support the network's declining number of nodes. In a blog post co-authored yesterday, CEO Balaji Srinivasan said the firm wants to maintain and incentivise the "critical mass" of full nodes, which form the collective 'backbone' that stores and relays all bitcoin transactions. Today, there are 12% fewer full nodes than this time last year. This continued decline means the bitcoin network - which finds strength in its distributed design - is becoming less stable. The post reads: "Bitcoin full nodes help preserve the health of the....

With over 700 BU-compatible nodes in existence right now, things get very interesting. The ongoing “competition” between Unlimited and Core nodes remains quite intriguing to keep an eye on. Over the past few days, the number of Unlimited compatible nodes has increased to 736. Quite a significant number, even though it includes some nodes that other platforms may not see as “compatible”. It is evident the Bitcoin Unlimited support continues to grow. More progress is needed to address bitcoin’s scalability in the near future. While additional support for Bitcoin Unlimited may not solve any....
The topic of Bitcoin Nodes is still a cause for many debates on Bitcoin platforms and Reddit these days, as the recent jump in Bitcoin Classic support has people asking a lot of [valid] questions. Although it is positive to see an outspoken support for either Core or Classic, trying to artificially grow the numbers will not do anyone any favors in the long run. A recent report shows how most of the Bitcoin Classic nodes are not hosted on dedicated servers, which is of particular concern.
The Bitcoin block size debate is still in effect as we speak, and things are heating up once again between Bitcoin Core and Bitcoin Classic supporters. Now that a working client for Bitcoin Classic users has been released, various Bitcoin nodes seem to be favoring this solution over Bitcoin Core. The battle for supremacy among Bitcoin nodes is still going on, and it looks like the Bitcoin Classic team is gaining a fair bit of ground in recent days. That being said, it is important to distinguish between full nodes and pruned nodes, as routing one single node through a list of IP addresses is throwing off the numbers. Moreover, the number of....
Since its launch, Bitcoin Classic's node count has steadily increased. The latest release of the alternative Bitcoin implementation even topped the charts, with almost 3,000 Bitcoin Classic 0.12 nodes reachable on the network. But a closer look at these statistics reveal some odd details. First, IP-data suggests that many Bitcoin Classic nodes might not really be many Bitcoin Classic nodes at all. Instead, a single node could use multiple IP addresses to spoof total node count. This possibility appears more likely in light of the observation that very few Bitcoin Classic nodes seem to be....
