The Bitcoin Co-op has been an important part of the Canadian Bitcoin community from the beginning, before the days of altcoins and non-currency uses of the blockchain. Although registered as a for-profit cooperative, its focus has always been on Bitcoin outreach, having convinced dozens of merchants to use bitcoins and fostered student clubs around Vancouver. The Co-op also has other projects, such as the Food Initiative and related Bitcoin farm. TigerDirect Canada seems to be working on bitcoin integration, but for the time being details are sketchy. Shoppers south of the border can already use bitcoins on the company's US site. The tech retailer started accepting the currency back in January, just two months later TigerDirect announced that the total volume of its bitcoin sales had surpassed $1m. Canada could soon join the fun. TigerDirect's bitcoin rollout appears to have been a success in the US and now it appears that it is about to expand to Canada. Set to be unveiled in Toronto, Canada between the hours of 7pm and 10pm is the unveiling of Toronto's first bitcoin ATM. The other bitcoin ATM in Canada is located in a downtown Vancouver coffee shop and is manufactured by Las Vegas-based Robocoin. This ATM, however, is manufactured in Canada (it's unclear who has made it). The location in which the ATM resides is dubbed Bitcoin Decentral, a described 5500-square-foot property in downtown Toronto four stories tall. Earlier this month, it was announced by me that NEWSBTC would be shutting its doors and closing. In that notice, I explained my reasons, many of which stand.
