R3 Developing Open Source Blockchain for Banks, says Head of Research
In September Bitcoin Magazine reported that nine global banks were pooling resources to fund R3, a next-generation global financial services company focused on applications of cryptographic technology and distributed ledger-based protocols within global financial markets. It was just last month that IBM's plans for an "Internet of things" architecture that would feature Bitcoin blockchain technology were revealed. IBM's planned project, called Adept, utilizes three distinct technologies including the blockchain, TeleHash, and BitTorrent. Swiss banking giant UBS has announced that it will research the technology behind the peer-to-peer network Bitcoin in order to explore how blockchain can be used in mainstream financial services.
