Delaware Governor Jack Markell to Deliver Keynote at Consensus 2016

CoinDesk, the bitcoin and blockchain industry’s leading media business, today announced that Delaware Governor Jack Markell will deliver the opening keynote for Consensus 2016, its 2nd annual blockchain technology summit, which will be held May 2-4, 2016, at the New York Marriott Marquis.

Gov. Markell will give a special presentation unveiling for the first time details surrounding "The Delaware Blockchain Initiative", which includes projects designed to draw new blockchain technology businesses to the state.

In addition to the Governor's keynote, members from the Delaware Department of State and the State Bar Association will join industry hosts Marco Santori (Partner, Pillsbury) and Mark Smith (CEO, Symbiont) for a moderated panel, which will focus on details surrounding various elements of the initiative.

“The Delaware Blockchain Initiative presents a practical opportunity for the state to demonstrate its leadership by unleashing the potential of blockchain technology and smart contracts across both the public and private sectors" said Mark Smith, CEO of Symbiont.

Marco Santori, a partner at Pillsbury and lead of the firm's blockchain practice, added, "This will be a historic development in the course of blockchain technology. We are thrilled to share the result of our many months of hard work to make it a reality in Delaware."

Gov. Markell will headline an elite speaker line-up, which also includes former Treasury Secretary, Lawrence H. Summers, Silver Lake founder, Glenn Hutchins, and 100+ other leading financial services executives and blockchain industry CEOs, such as Blythe Masters (Digital Asset Holdings), Jeremy Allaire (Circle) and Chris Larsen (Ripple).

“We are honored to host Governor Markell and all of his collaborators on the Delaware Blockchain Initiative, who have shown such foresight and leadership in embracing blockchain technology’s potential to simplify public and private record-keeping,” said Ryan Selkis, CoinDesk’s team lead.

"Delaware is once again living up to its nickname as "The First State" -- this time with respect to government-led innovation in fintech and corporate law."
