Ethereum Crises Deepens; SoftFork Out, HardFork Decision in Just 16 Days

The Ethereum community is in emergency mode as showstoping findings from the Cornell team sent the soft-fork option out. The only choice now available is whether to hard-fork or not, a decision that must be made in just 16 days. DDos vulnerabilities were found in Ethereum’s softfork which allows an attacker to exploit the gas limit (comparable to bitcoin’s transaction fees) and, in effect, bring the whole network to a halt. Therefore, the “[s]oft fork is out” says George Hallam, spokesman for Ethereum’s foundation, speaking to CCN. The community now has to move incredibly quickly and make....

Ether Slumps, Ethereum Classic Surges 300%, Finds Support With Exchanges, Miners

Ethereum classic (ETC) has seen a rally in the last 24 hours, in a massive reversal of fortunes. Ethereum classic is a result of the forking of the Ethereum which, ironically, comes from a decision by the Ethereum foundation to fork Ethereum to try to restore the money lost in the DAO hacking incident earlier on. In a message released by the promoters of Ethereum Classic they made their intentions clear: they do not accept the fork which was made to reimburse DAO investors. They say: “The Ethereum Foundation responded to the DAO debacle in the worst way possible. Special interests....

Miners Vote Overwhelmingly in Support of Ethereum’s Hardfork

In just three days, Ethereum is to undertake the first of its kind hardfork in the digital currency space. With Geth, Parity and Mist all having a hardfork release, all eyes are now on the miners. Ethpool/Ethermine was the first to open the decision to miners with more than 81% voting in support of the hardfork on both pools. Dwarfpool, currently the biggest ethereum miner, followed, with more than 72% supporting the fork. Peter from Ethpool/Etherminer, speaking to CCN, stated: “[T]esting will start tomorrow and all mining nodes will be upgraded by Tuesday according to the result of the....

Ethereum Reaches Unanimous Agreement to Hardfork

In a historical, decentralized and defining decision, Ethereum holders have unanimously voted in favor of a hardfork to deprive the DAO thief of his ill gains and return the funds to token holders, avoiding a trainwreck just months after ethereum’s release. Utilizing the blockchain, a transparent and non-gameable voting method shows that out of more than 1.5 million eth, 97%, valued currently at $15 million, are in favor of the fork, with only just above 40,000 eth against. The unanimous and conclusive decision by ethereum’s community will now turn attention to the implementation of the....

Ethereum Prepares for the Spurious Dragon Hardfork

Ethereum’s community is preparing for the second upgrade of a two parts hardfork plan to address a number of bugs that were exploited last month which slowed down the network to almost a halt. The first of the two parts hardfork was just under a month ago with Jeffrey Wilcke, founder of Ethlabs and one of Ethereum’s Geth developers, stating that the second hardfork will initiate at block number 2,675,000 which is expected in about seven days. All node operators therefore, especially any Ethereum based business and miners, will now need to upgrade to the newly released Geth client or the....

VeriCoin Developer Speaks with CCN on MintPal Hardfork

Recently, the digital currency exchange MintPal was successfully attacked. VeriCoin was the target, and nearly 30% of all the VeriCoin in existence were stolen. In a time of quick decisions, the VeriCoin developers came in contact with MintPal and decided to hardfork their blockchain to a point before the transaction. The decision has caused some conversations to come forth of the hardfork that has the altcoin-community debating whether this decision was the right thing to do. Patrick Nosker, one of the developers for VeriCoin, sat down with CCN to talk about the decision and the....
