14nm Chips Will ‘Re-Decentralize’ Mining, Says Antonopoulos
Bitcoin expert Andreas Antonopoulos explains why faster mining chips and slamming into the Moore’s Law “wall” will be “a very good thing” for decentralization moving forward. Mining Arms Race Slows at 16nm Chips. Speaking at D10E event in San Francisco in July 2016, Andreas Antonopoulos focused on the architecture of power and the trade-offs between....

BW, one of the world’s leading Bitcoin mining hardware manufacturers, have posted an update regarding the status of their 14nm mining chip. As mining chips become smaller, they should consume less energy each while offering the same – or more – hashing power. So far, it seems BW has sold out their first batch of miners already, which is a positive sign for things to come. The BW 14nm Bitcoin Mining Chip. There has been a lot of interest for this new BW Bitcoin mining chip by the look of things, as there is a bigger demand than supply for the time being. For companies such as BW, this is a....
Avalon, the first company to manufacture ASIC mining chips and sell them to consumers, has returned to the marketplace with a new chip after an absence of several years. Avalon has announced a new A3218 mining chip that will be released in the Avalon6 miner. According to Avalon, each server can process 3.65 TH/s at a power efficiency of 0.29 W/GH. Each server is composed of 80 of the Avalon A3218 chips. The system requires, at minimum, a 12VC DC, 1,100 watts PSU output. Unlike the other companies that have been developing 14nm chips, Avalon decided to stick with its 28nm ASIC chip. "What I....
Black Arrow Minion. Black Arrow Minion chips are now being designed at 14nm, beating KnC's 20nm record. In a world where size supposedly doesn't matter, ASIC chips keep getting smaller and smaller. The smaller the chip is, the longer the production time and the lower the power consumption. Alex from Black Arrow gives us the low-down on the Minion high-ground. BW.com, the Chinese bitcoin mining hardware manufacturer has announced the success of its latest 14nm bitcoin mining ASICs. The next batch of miners will be available by June 2016. Mining is a vital component of the bitcoin network. The bitcoin mining operation has grown from being an individual scale operation to one of an industrial scale where companies are setting up data centers with hundreds of mining ASICs, leading to a drastic increase in the sale of miners. As, the difficulty of mining operations increase, the mining units are also becoming more technically advanced. BW.com, a....
KnCMiner, a company, based in Sweden, has unveiled their new line of Solar chips which will have a 16 nm process. Currently, most updated chips run on a 20 nm process. 20 nm process chips can achieve the efficiency of .7 W per Gh/s. 16 nm chips are believed to improve the efficiency of mining tenfold, resulting in an efficiency of .07 W per Gh/s. With these specifications, a 1.4 KW miner that could be powered by a standard home outlet could mine at 20 Th/s. KnCMiner’s new chips are planned for launch in Q1 of 2015. With rapid improvements in ASICs, Bitcoin miners will need to continually....
