Mission Untraceable: How Zcash is Used to Obscure Ethereum Transactions

Cryptographer Andrew Miller posed for a Snapchat selfie with one of his fans at an event earlier this week where he presented a paper on how to make ethereum smart contracts untraceable. It was the third time during my attempt to interview him that he was approached by people who wanted to speak about his latest project, Hawk, which uses untraceable digital currency startup Zcash's underlying protocol to mask the sending and receiving addresses of ethereum transactions. Speaking to a group of about 150 people at Microsoft's New York City headquarters, Miller delivered a detailed breakdown....

Bitcoin Alternative ZCash Offers Anonymity And Law Enforcement Surveillance Protection

Even though Wilcox claims his startup is not aimed at making illegal activities easier for criminals, he is quick to note how his company will not be liable for ZCash applications in a criminal environment. Bitcoin has often been touted as an untraceable and anonymous digital currency, even though it is neither at its core. Strangely enough, mainstream media has forgotten all about the headlines they wrote until a few weeks ago, as an untraceable Bitcoin alternative has launched. ZCash looks to bring anonymity to the digital currency ecosystem, making it perfect for those who wish to use....

Zcash’s ‘Baby ZoE’ Can Send Ether Anonymously

The developers of Zcash are on a mission to provide anonymity to cryptocurrency transactions and the team has been working with Ethereum developers to create the ‘HTTPS’ for Bitcoin’s internet of money. Bid to Connect Ethereum and Zcash Blockchains Reaches New Milestone

Work on integrating Zcash's privacy-focused tech with ethereum’s distributed applications platform has reached a new milestone. According to a blog post by Ethereum Foundation team lead Christian Reitwiessner and Zcash Company engineer Ariel Gabizon, new code has been tested as part of effort to create a means to verify zk-SNARK proofs written in Solidity, ethereum’s smart contract language. Zk-SNARKS are zero-knowledge proofs that provide a means to shield certain types of data (like who is sending what amount of digital currency), and form a central component of Zcash. As Reitwiessner....

Zcash Bug Prevents Private Transactions Soon After Launch

Just after Zcash launched, the anonymous new digital currency that has taken the crypto world by storm, a bug was found that apparently prevents private transactions from being mined. Zcash’s official website states: “There is one known bug, which causes private transactions (those in which all of the inputs and outputs are shielded addresses) to not get mined. We’re going to release v1.0.1 shortly to fix it.” The Zcash Mining Pool currently has a big red banner which states: “Because of a critical Zcash wallet bug we are unable to send any payments to z addresses at the moment. Please....

Zcash Launches in Alpha

In the game of anonymity, cryptocurrency fans have embraced Bitcoin and the blockchain technology which drives it. The technology does record and stamp the transaction, and is placed in the cloud, unlike Zcash, which sees its alpha release. Zcash has coded a decentralized network using a public blockchain. He and his team, a group of cryptologists, computer science and information security academics, have launched the first public alpha release of the world’s best effort to date of untraceable digital money. Wilcox’s Zcash, a “zero-knowledge proof” alternative to bitcoin, publishes its....
