Hyperledger Tests Open Strategy With First Blockchain Explorer

Business blockchain consortium Hyperledger is now building an open-source tool that will let anyone explore the distributed ledger projects being created by its members. Originally conceived by an intern at the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), the proposal to create a blockchain explorer gained steam last month when it was informally proposed to members. It was then that other prominent contributors to the Linux-led group discovered they all had similar efforts underway. But instead of launching competing open-source services, an effort began to merge the blockchain....

The Blockchain Milestone You May Have Missed

Amidst the fanfare of the release of R3's Corda distributed ledger code, another milestone slipped by almost unnoticed – Hyperledger surpassed 100 members. On its own, the news isn't that important – 100 is, after all, just a number. But combine the two reports, and you unearth a development that could define the future of blockchain. Hyperledger was created a year ago as a unifying "umbrella" for enterprise blockchain open-source development. Among the participants are blockchain companies (including R3), financial institutions and tech giants. Its approach so far has been a mix....

Linux Foundation's Hyperledger Blockchain Project Announces New Members and Governance Structure

In December Bitcoin Magazine reported that a group of top tech and finance companies are joining forces with the Linux Foundation to develop a new open source blockchain separated from the Bitcoin blockchain. Digital Asset Holdings, the fintech startup headed by the financial superstar Blythe Masters, contributed its Hyperledger mark. Last week, IBM started to reveal some details of its blockchain projects and strategy. Hyperledger Director Draws Dividing Line With 'Umbrella' Statement

Brian Behlendorf has made a living out of helping others play well together — and his work with blockchain group Hyperledger builds on this expertise. But before that can happen with this latest open-source project, the founder of the Apache Software Foundation set out to make sure that the more than 80 existing members of Hyperledger know what they've signed up for. In a blog post he published last week entitled "Meet Hyperledger: An 'Umbrella,' for Open Source Blockchain & Smart Contract Technologies," Behlendorf laid out in explicit terms Hyperledger's mission and the....

Hyperledger's Executive Director Brian Behlendorf on Strategy, Goals and Growth

The Hyperledger Project, a collaborative cross-industry effort to advance blockchain technology led by The Linux Foundation, announced that 17 new organizations have joined to help create an open standard for distributed ledgers for a new generation of transactional applications. The project now has more than 80 members, which represents a growth of 170 percent in the last six months. “There’s been a tremendous response to our vision for creating an open community for blockchain technology and we’re proud to be celebrating this member milestone,” said Brian Behlendorf, executive director....
