R3, 8 Member Banks Test Intel Blockchain Prototype
A group of 8 banks from the R3 blockchain consortium have successfully tested a blockchain prototype developed by Intel by simulating bond transactions. Picking US treasury bonds as the instrument, New York-based private blockchain startup R3 and eight of its member banks from its larger consortium put to test a technology developed by Intel, called ‘Sawtooth Lake.’ The prototype was an implementation of said technology, which is Intel’s proprietary blockchain platform. The simulation took place on a ledger supported by physical nodes that were non-cloud-based, as specified by R3. The....

A group of eight R3 member-banks have successfully tested a blockchain prototype that simulated the exchange of US Treasury bonds. Though a familiar use case for the tech, the test is notable given that it used technology developed by Intel and unveiled earlier this year. Called 'Sawtooth Lake', the platform offers a compelling take on how secure hardware could play a role in distributed ledger architecture. Intel vice president Jerry Bautista said in a statement: "We believe collaborative exploration of blockchain usages is key to the development of this emerging technology."....
The Bank of Russia has developed and tested on an Ethereum-based blockchain prototype called ‘Masterchain’ for financial messaging, to be used by banks in Russia. The Bank of Russia, the country’s central bank, has developed a technical prototype called ‘Masterchain’. The prototype is based on distributed ledger or blockchain technology for the Russian financial market, an announcement by the bank revealed yesterday. The blockchain platform prototype was developed for financial messaging between banks in the Russian financial system and was put to the test. The announcement added: The....
A number of banks and financial firms have completed a long-running blockchain test involving a smart contract prototype developed by blockchain firm Axoni, for equity swaps. Following months of testing, enterprise blockchain solutions firm Axoni has revealed a long-running blockchain test processing over-the-counter (OTC) equity swaps. Participating banks include JP Morgan, Citi, Credit Suisse and Barclays. Financial support industry firms IHS Markit and Thomson Reuters, along with consultancy firm Capco also took part in the test. Fortnightly meetings were conducted among participants....
A consortium of financial institutions led by startup R3CEV has completed a trial of five different blockchain solutions. The blockchain concepts tests were presented by Eris Industries, Ethereum, IBM, Intel and Chain, according to reports by Reuters and The Wall Street Journal. Preparations began early last month, culminating with the test during the last two weeks of February. Forty banks took part, drawn from the collection of banks that have thrown their support behind the R3-led consortium. A number of those banks have launched trials of their own in addition to the work conducted as....
UK banking giant Barclays took another step toward positioning itself at the forefront of innovators in the blockchain sector last week with the news it had become the first to trial Corda, a new distributed ledger platform from partner R3CEV. The prototype, demoed at the Barclays Accelerator in London last week, follows a particularly active period for Barclays, which earlier this month revealed it would provide banking services to blockchain payments startup Circle, and earlier this year, participated in a test of a private version of the Ethereum blockchain with 11 R3 member banks. In....
