A Victorious Rebellion? Microsoft Investigates Ethereum Classic’s Potential
Since Ethereum decided to hard fork because of the DAO incident, the network has been in limbo, the community finding itself the center of continuous controversy. The fork caused a split in the blockchain, creating a new cryptocurrency called Ethereum Classic — in turn spawning opposing community factions. Recently, Microsoft executives have met with....

Born as a rebellion against Ethereum’s hard fork to retrieve funds from The DAO after it was "hacked" last summer, Ethereum Classic has increasingly formed a unique identity since. The continuation of the “original,” pre-fork Ethereum project seems to be letting go of plans as established by the Ethereum Foundation, and instead navigates a distinct path forward. The development community around the smart contract platform is growing, the project developed its own policy on hard forks, and as opposed to Ethereum, Ethereum Classic will probably not switch to (full) proof-of-stake....
Developed by tech giants Microsoft, Alibaba, and Carnegie Mellon University on top of the Ethereum public blockchain, Project Argus is set to reduce internet piracy. The partners recently released a report on the project, its objectives, and potential applications. As the paper describes, companies, such as Microsoft, Apple, and others, spend a lot of time […]
Ethereum Classic is preparing another hard fork. It was announced in statements published last week that the project’s development and mining community is committing to a change in its monetary policy by December of this year. Essentially a move to a new protocol, all current Ethereum Classic users and miners should have upgraded their software by then. If everyone does not upgrade their software, the project can split into two incompatible networks, blockchains and currencies. Of course, that is exactly how Ethereum Classic itself broke away from the Ethereum Foundation’s Ethereum last....
Ethereum Classic lost more than 10% of its value today with price standing just above $1 as the network comes under sustained dos attack. The attacks are similar to those experienced by Ethereum over last month. A programmer is exploiting gas mispricing for certain op codes to drain nodes of memory and other resources thus slowing them down. Who or why is a matter of speculation. For ETC, considering the dramatic price movement, it could well be financially motivated and might not even be the original attacker, but a copycat.
