Velocity’s Demo Invites Users to Try ‘Simple’ Smart Contracts

Distributed derivatives platform Velocity went live this week with a product demo version. The “simple” smart contract invites users to speculate on price for Ethereum’s native token ether. Velocity Making ‘Financial Building Blocks’. Velocity‘s aim is to provide a blockchain-based smart contract alternative to existing derivatives, built on Ethereum. The demo version currently runs on Ethereum’s testnet. Chief architect Vignesh Sundaresan indicated where the financial industry could use his products: “Derivatives are financial building blocks if you think about it. They are everywhere....

Chain Reveals 'Ivy' Smart Contract Language in First Public Demo

The 'Wild West' of smart contracts is about to get a little wilder. Following the first-ever public demo of enterprise blockchain company Chain's in-house smart contracts language this week, the venture-backed startup is now preparing to release the technology to the public. However, in an exclusive demo of the technology with CoinDesk, the person in charge of creating the language gave a sneak peak at the company's latest creation, explaining, too, what he envisions as its ideal application. Product architect Dan Robinson told CoinDesk: "Ivy is particularly useful and well-suited for....

Why Ethereum Needs 'Dumb' Contracts

"The two things to know about smart contracts is that they’re dumb, and they’re not contracts." This statement from Harvard Berkman Center's Patrick Murck seems increasingly relevant in the wake of the collapse of The DAO. The ethereum-based fund was the largest smart contract issued to date, and its failure has led many to reconsider how ready the technology is for primetime. At their core, smart contracts facilitate decentralized applications by eliminating trust points. Because they automate existing processes, many believe smart contracts could someday lower costs across....

Smart Contracts – From Ethereum to Potential Banking Use Cases Whitepaper

Cardano Sees Over 40,000 Smart Contracts Deployed 4 Days After Alonzo HFC, Ho...

Smart contracts have become a reality on the Cardano network after September 12th. After the Alonzo Hard Fork Combinator launch, developers could now go ahead and start creating smart contracts on the ecosystem. This would aid in developers creating decentralized applications (DApps) to provide decentralized finance (DeFi) services to the users of the blockchain. With the number of smart contracts that have been created on the network, it is no doubt that we are about to witness an influx of new decentralized apps on the network. The project has said that they are supporting developers in....

Susanne Tarkowski on How Smart Contracts Can Add Value to Your Business

Susanne Tarkowski Tempelhof, Founder and CEO of Bitnation, explains to Cointelegraph how smart contracts can lower costs of your business. Cointelegraph: What are Smart Contracts about? Susanne Tarkowski: Smart contracts are applications ‘living on’ the Blockchain, and therefore can’t be censored. Simple, immutable and autonomous applications, basically. As Primavera de Filippi eloquently phrased it during her talk at OuiShare Paris 2016 “Smart Contracts are neither smart nor contracts...”. But ironically, smart contracts are however ideally suited to be… well… contracts! In essence, your....
