Ethereum Classic Divided Over the Proposed Hardfork

Ethereum Classic Divided Over the Proposed Hardfork

Ethereum is to hardfork within 85 hours with little if any apparent controversy as the community moves quickly to address dos vulnerabilities. Ethereum Classic however seems divided regarding a proposed hardfork to solve an underlying fault that has lead to numerous dos attacks. The argument concerns null accounts that contain no balances or code and are fully empty. Ethereum developers have proposed the removal of this “state-bloat” as apparently the attacker could create as many null accounts as he wishes at effectively no cost to himself, but at a cost to the network in storage and....

Ether Slumps, Ethereum Classic Surges 300%, Finds Support With Exchanges, Miners

Ethereum classic (ETC) has seen a rally in the last 24 hours, in a massive reversal of fortunes. Ethereum classic is a result of the forking of the Ethereum which, ironically, comes from a decision by the Ethereum foundation to fork Ethereum to try to restore the money lost in the DAO hacking incident earlier on. In a message released by the promoters of Ethereum Classic they made their intentions clear: they do not accept the fork which was made to reimburse DAO investors. They say: “The Ethereum Foundation responded to the DAO debacle in the worst way possible. Special interests....

Digital Currency Exchanges on the Upcoming Ethereum Hardfork

Last week, Ethereum announced a hardfork following a relentless, month-long denial of service attack. The proposed hardfork will occur at block 2,463,000, expected to be mined today, October 16. At the time of publishing, the Ethereum blockchain saw block #2,462,322 mined, by mining pool ethpool. In the lead-up to the hardfork, cryptocurrency exchanges have sought to update customers on how they plan to respond and adapt to the Ethereum hard fork. Prominent digital assets exchange Kraken has said that it expects the fork to occur without any disruption, “with the DOS-protected fork quickly....

Ethereum Classic Hardforks Successfully

Ethereum Classic forked for the first time this morning to address a number of dos attack vectors that have affected ETC’s network for weeks. The upgrade faced no technical problems, with most of the network and miners smoothly transitioning from the old client to the new Gas Price Hardfork client. However, ETC’s price has not reacted positively, falling by more than 3% in contrast to Eth’s price which rose by almost 10% after it successfully hardforked last week. ETC’s price may be a reaction to bitcoin’s gain in value – itself arguably because some miners have publicly called for a....

BTC-e Calls Ethereum Classic a Scam

This is quite an interesting statement, as BTC-E claims their users have transferred their own ETC funds to the Poloniex exchange. The world of cryptocurrency seems very divided when it comes to Ethereum and Ethereum Classic right now. Cryptocurrency exchange BTC-e went as far as calling Ethereum Classic a”scam,” as they have no plans to support it. However, various of their ETH users are eligible to receive ETH tokens for funds stored before the hard fork took place. Will the company pay that funds to the rightful owners, or will they keep the ETC to sell it and reap the profits? BTC-E....

Miners Vote Overwhelmingly in Support of Ethereum’s Hardfork

In just three days, Ethereum is to undertake the first of its kind hardfork in the digital currency space. With Geth, Parity and Mist all having a hardfork release, all eyes are now on the miners. Ethpool/Ethermine was the first to open the decision to miners with more than 81% voting in support of the hardfork on both pools. Dwarfpool, currently the biggest ethereum miner, followed, with more than 72% supporting the fork. Peter from Ethpool/Etherminer, speaking to CCN, stated: “[T]esting will start tomorrow and all mining nodes will be upgraded by Tuesday according to the result of the....
