Bitcoin Core Developers Work On A New 2 MB Hardfork Proposal

Many people are keeping a close eye on the block size debate for very different reasons. Solving the Bitcoin block size problem has been a top priority for developers over the past few months. Multiple solutions have been proposed, although only two of them are in actual “contention” right now. Bitcoin Core developers have begun development of a third solution that would shift the block size to 2MB. It is always good to have options on the table. Even though Segregated Witness has not been denied by the mining community yet, it is due time to consider alternatives. Bitcoin Core developers....

Bitcoin Miners to Hardfork According to Circulating Rumors

The blocksize debate has been brought to the forefront once more as a number of Bitcoin developers, including Gregory Maxwell, CTO of Blockstream and Mark Friedenbach, Core Tech Engineer at Blockstream, came out against the Hong Kong Consensus, arguably the most important document in Bitcoin’s history since the whitepaper. According to what may be a leak of an alleged meeting between pools and miners representing more than 75% of hashpower, consensus has been reached to hardfork to 2mb if Bitcoin Core developers do not release a new Bitcoin Core client with a 2MB hardfork code by August....

Bitcoin to Hardfork? Proposal Sees Grassroots Beginnings

After a year and a half of debate with no compromise reached, supporters of on-chain scaling, have, seemingly, decided to unilaterally hardfork. A group of contributors to the open-source Bitcoin Core development project met late last month in Switzerland for a sit-down review of the code for Segregated Witness, a proposal aimed at scaling the bitcoin network. The gathering in Zürich drew about 20 Core developers, and comes at a time when there remains deep divisions in the community over the actions of the group, as well as its approach to scaling the bitcoin network. In this light, the meeting in Zürich had a certain gravity, given that the work being performed will have major implications for the bitcoin network’s trajectory in....

Chinese Mining Pools Call for Consensus; Refuse Switch to Bitcoin XT

Three of China 's biggest mining pools – F2Pool, BTCChina Pool and Huobi Pool – maintain that the Bitcoin Core development team should strive for consensus, and will therefore not support a switch to Bitcoin XT. Given Core developer Gavin Andresen's latest proposal and the current hash-rate distribution on the Bitcoin network, a network wide shift from Bitcoin Core to Bitcoin XT to allow bigger blocks seems infeasible, for now. Lacking consensus among Core developers to raise the block size limit, Andresen has recently shifted his efforts to Mike Hearn's Bitcoin Core fork, Bitcoin XT. In a....
