Chinese Bitcoin Miner Might Be Trying To Corner ASIC Chip Market

Bitmain, which specializes in custom mining chips and miners, has come under increased scrutiny due to the Chinese firm’s control over the production of so much bitcoin hardware and hashing power. Some bitcoin participants are beginning to fear a negative outcome for bitcoin with so few producers of the digital currency’s mining hardware. In 2013,....

Two new Bitcoin ASIC Miners : Scam or Real?

As we are all aware of, if you want to keep on mining in the Bitcoin universe, you'll need an ASIC miner sooner or later, if you want to be profitable that is. We've been through a passage of USB ASIC miners (the Block Erupters) which are now rapidly declining in price. It has recently come to my attention that there are 2 new ASIC's announced, which are supposedly in stock. That is something you don't see too often (but it has happened before). So let's take a look at these two new Bitcoin ASIC's, shall we? First up, we have the Red Fury USB miner. Yes, that's right, a new USB miner.....

Bitcoin Network’s Hashrate Gets a Boost with Updated BitFury 16nm Chip

Veteran ASIC chip producer BitFury announced yesterday via Twitter that they are “finally” coming to market with a 16-nanometer chip which will be, reportedly, the fastest chip on record. According to their own website, the chip will produce up to 180 gigahashes per second, per chip. The news mainly affects ASIC miner producers, since small-scale, consumer-facing sales are not the purview of BitFury. Effectively, this would mean a 1 terrahash rig would only require 6 chips total, massively decreasing the size of future mining hardware. For some perspective, one of the earliest 1 TH/s rigs....

Avalon Releases New ASIC Miner & Begins Shipping Worldwide through BlockC Partnership

Avalon, the first company to manufacture ASIC mining chips and sell them to consumers, has returned to the marketplace with a new chip after an absence of several years. Avalon has announced a new A3218 mining chip that will be released in the Avalon6 miner. According to Avalon, each server can process 3.65 TH/s at a power efficiency of 0.29 W/GH. Each server is composed of 80 of the Avalon A3218 chips. The system requires, at minimum, a 12VC DC, 1,100 watts PSU output. Unlike the other companies that have been developing 14nm chips, Avalon decided to stick with its 28nm ASIC chip. "What I....

VMC closes deal for 28nm ASIC chips in 24.5 TH/sec miners

Virtual Mining Corporation (VMC) has closed a deal with fabless semiconductor firm eASIC to use its 28 nm ASIC chip in its mining boxes. The boxes will be expandable up to 24.5 TH/sec, VMC says. The Springfield, Missouri ASIC miner manufacturer will use the Nextreme-3 design from eASIC in its Fast-Hash One mining boxes, which it says will ship in the last half of November. There will be three ASIC miners, allowing for different maximum hash rate capacities. The Nextreme-3 chip provides a nominal hash rate of 16 GH/sec, or 20 GH/sec overclocked, and consumes under 12 W per chip, equating to....
