Why the United States Election System Must Adopt Blockchain Technology (Op-Ed)

Talking about the election with my family and friends, many reflect a complacent and, frankly, spoiled attitude about the manner in which things are done in the U.S. Many either don’t know or don’t care that the national election can be easily manipulated, at least in certain key counties, which hold the capacity to influence states, which further hold the ability to influence elections. This op-ed article will look to expand on the good, the bad, and the ugly of the recent 2016 U.S. presidential election, and how, regardless of who you supported, changes to the working system need to be....

Blockchain startup Expanse affirms claim to develop a system that will deliver honest, transparent and credible elections as it seeks government partnership to enhance its programme. No Winners as Bitcoin Foundation Election Ends in Runoff

An election to fill two individual member seats at the Bitcoin Foundation has ended without a clear winner, voting results show. The Bitcoin Foundation reports that none of the 13 candidates received at least 50% of the vote from foundation members, a development that will result in another round of voting. Participants in the run-off election will include entrepreneur Olivier Janssens, former foundation global policy counsel Jim Harper, Atlantic Financial's Bruce Fenton and Michael Perklin of the CryptoCurrency Certification Consortium (C4), each of whom received at least 30% of the vote.....

15 March 2016 – There’s been a lot of contentious events surrounding privacy, encryption, and data security in the past few weeks covered in the media. With the US Presidential Primaries in full swing, and the presidential election looming closer on the horizon, few seem to be concerned with securing that most basic of civil liberties enjoyed in democratic nations: the right to vote. In the US, electronic voting machines, specifically the type manufactured by Election Systems & Software, are employed in the majority of US voting districts, and the security risks of their widespread....

Bitcoin Foundation Candidates Voice Concerns Over Low Voter Registration

Candidates in the ongoing Bitcoin Foundation election to fill two vacant board of director positions have expressed concern at a low voter turnout. Candidate Jim Harper of the Cato Institute, and former global policy counsel for the foundation, has pointed out that only 364 of the organisation's roughly 2,728 members have registered to vote - about 13% (this figure has been revised-please see below). This is in part due to the Bitcoin Foundation's requirement that members must confirm their intention to vote before becoming eligible, he contends. The 364 figure means the minimum threshold....
