Bitcoin Quantum Exposure: Glassnode Says 30% of Supply Is Highly Vulnerable
A new study by Glassnode is putting fresh focus on a security risk for the wider Bitcoin (BTC) ecosystem—one that relates not to today’s cryptography, but to what could happen if quantum computers become powerful enough to run the right algorithms. According to the research, 6.04 million Bitcoin, or 30.2% of the issued supply, is […]

Analytics firm Glassnode has broken down how much of the Bitcoin supply is at risk due to Quantum Computing and what its composition looks like. 6.04 Million Bitcoin Is Estimated To Be Exposed To Quantum Risk In a new X article, Glassnode has talked about the part of the Bitcoin supply in circulation that’s exposed […]
Bitcoin’s long-term security model is once again under the spotlight following new data from Glassnode suggesting that the network could face theoretical risks in a future dominated by quantum computing. The report shows that a significant portion of BTC’s circulating supply could be vulnerable in the future if quantum technology advances to the point where it can break current cryptographic protections. Glassnode’s Data Reveals The Scale Of Potential Future Exposure New data from Glassnode, an on-chain data analytics platform, has shed light on a potential long-term change facing....
Project 11 CEO Alex Pruden is challenging a CoinShares estimate that only 10,200 bitcoin sit in “genuinely” quantum-vulnerable legacy addresses, arguing instead that roughly 6.9 million BTC could be exposed if cryptographically relevant quantum computers arrive sooner than the market expects. The dispute, amplified by Castle Island partner Nic Carter, goes to the heart of […]
Quantum risk has become a recurring stress point in Bitcoin discourse, often framed as an existential threat. The claim usually follows a familiar arc: quantum computing is advancing quickly, cryptography is vulnerable, and Bitcoin isn’t adapting fast enough. Marty Bent doesn’t buy that framing. In his Dec. 14 episode, Bent acknowledged that quantum computing represents […]
According to a report by Glassnode, bitcoin’s declining stablecoin supply ratio (SSR) indicates an increased supply of newly minted coins on exchanges. In turn, this increase in supply means exchanges are currently “highly liquid and ready to buy up assets such as bitcoin.” Stablecoin Supply Growth As explained in the report, the SSR is a ratio of the total value of all bitcoins versus stablecoins. This metric “decreases when (either) the price of BTC is low or when more stablecoins are entering circulation.” However, with BTC prices are already high, this....
