Client malfunction brings down Ethereum’s most popular block explorer
Etherscan and OpenEthereum are stuck on one block shortly after Berlin hard fork. The OpenEthereum client for Ethereum, formerly known as the Parity client, is reportedly malfunctioning for a number of users on Thursday afternoon UTC, including the popular block explorer Etherscan.According to multiple user reports on GitHub, the OpenEthereum client has been stuck on block 12,244,294, or just 294 blocks after the Berlin hard fork was executed. The error message seems to indicate that the client is rejecting the new blocks, thinking that its state Merkle root is invalid. The issue seems to....

Learn more about a blockchain’s transparency with a block explorer. A blockchain, in its essence, provides a digital record of transactions. At present, this most often pertains to transaction records for cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC). The database of records, called blocks, is often touted for its transparency and immutability. But what do these features really mean? If you want to analyze a blockchain transaction, you first need to know how to use a block explorer. What is a block explorer?A block explorer is a crucial instrument in the toolbox of a cryptocurrency and blockchain....
Ethereum’s community is preparing for the second upgrade of a two parts hardfork plan to address a number of bugs that were exploited last month which slowed down the network to almost a halt. The first of the two parts hardfork was just under a month ago with Jeffrey Wilcke, founder of Ethlabs and one of Ethereum’s Geth developers, stating that the second hardfork will initiate at block number 2,675,000 which is expected in about seven days. All node operators therefore, especially any Ethereum based business and miners, will now need to upgrade to the newly released Geth client or the....
A hard fork that split Ethereum’s chain in two was activated on purpose, calling into question Ethereum’s client coordination.
The block explorer has long been one of the most important applications in the Bitcoin ecosystem. The blockchain's ingenuity and the the massive computer power backing it make it the perfect financial ledger, but its sheer size and programming language make it unreadable to normal human beings. Blockchain.info fixed that in 2011 with the first real block explorer available to the public. All 70+ million transactions and every Bitcoin address published to the blockchain are indexed and easily-searchable, with a simple user interface that almost anyone with a home computer can understand.....
Feathercoin has announced advanced checkpointing in its block chain to protect against 51% attacks. The advanced checkpointing (ACP) feature will remove the need for changes to client software by publishing a feed of checkpoints, via a central node. Checkpointing is a lesser known part of cryptocurrencies. It's a way to maintain the integrity of the block chain by recording blocks out of it. In bitcoin, checkpoints are stored in the code of the client. This enables it to verify its checkpoints against the copy of the block chain it has downloaded, ensuring that block chain has not been....
