Proposed Ethereum PoW Fork Token Loses Half Its Market Value in Less Than 6 Days
In 32 days, Ethereum is expected to upgrade from a proof-of-work (PoW) consensus algorithm to a proof-of-stake (PoS) system after the network used PoW for seven years. While the testnets have implemented the new rules, most people envision a relatively smooth mainnet transition. However, another chain is expected to fork away from the Ethereum branch and since August 8, the proposed fork called ETHW has gained market value in a few IOU markets. Despite the value gathered, the potential token lost more than half of its USD value in less than six days’ time. While ETHW Captures....

The ETHPoW fork proposal comes from the miners. It’s only logical that they want to keep Ethereum as a Proof-Of-Work chain, since all of their profit will evaporate overnight with the change to Proof-Of-Stake. The merge is supposedly only weeks away, and the Ethereum community has their hearts set on the proposed changes. Nevertheless, the […]
A new Ethereum-based token is burning ETH at a rapid clip and has diluted in price just as quickly – but all by design. The XEN token has accounted for nearly half of Ethereum gas in a 24-hour window in recent days. What is it, and where did it come from? Let’s take a brief […]
The Ethereum hard fork token (ETHW) has been popular after playing off the popularity of the Ethereum Merge. The fork was carried out in a bid to keep Ethereum in its original proof of work mechanism, and the ETHW token resulted from it. Chandler Guo is now known as the self-appointed organizer of the hard […]
The Ethereum community had a hard fork this past week, and many celebrated a successful implementation. However, not everyone was enthusiastic about the fork as it only received 85% of the network’s hashing power. The Ethereum blockchain split into two, and the minority has been mining and now trading via Poloniex a “new” token supply called Ethereum....
So far, developers are calling 'Spurious Dragon' a success. Ethereum's latest hard fork, officially activated at block 2,675,000 today, comes days after the code was first tested as a solution to ongoing network performance issues. Among other changes, the fork will give developers the ability to delete empty accounts left by an unknown attacker that had effectively flooded the network. While generally seen as a dangerous way to upgrade a blockchain (since it can lead to a network split if the proposed changes aren't accepted by everyone), ethereum's developers have embraced hard forks as....
