Bitcoin is catching some steam over U.S. online merchants including Overstock, DISH and Expedia, as customer’s using the digital currency id becoming increasingly large. For now sales paid for in bitcoin have been a fraction of one percent, but this number is expected to rise as acceptance grows, and the online currency will become as ubiquitous as the internet. Major online travel agency Expedia made a splash in the crypto-currency community recently when they announced they would be accepting bitcoin, and so far things are seemingly going well. If the Cyprus bank "haircuts" are inspiring savers to take a new interest in bitcoin, the Marketplace Fairness Act could do the same for online retailers. The proposal, currently working its way through the US Senate, would require web-based businesses to collect sales taxes from online customers based on the jurisdictions in which they live.
