Introducing Coindero.com, the best way to find local bitcoin places all over the world.

Coindero is a new site that makes it easy to find local bitcoin places anywhere in the world. The site aims to have the most comprehensive and up-to-date database with bitcoin places available with information gathered daily from OpenStreetMap and complemented with data from Facebook Graph API.

The Facebook integration allows places to be ranked based on their popularity, using check-ins and likes. This allows Coindero to not only help users find places, but also help them find the most popular places that accept bitcoin.

For example, Coindero lets you find the best restaurant in San Francisco¹ or the most popular bar in Barcelona² that accepts bitcoin.

Coindero.com is a responsive website that is accessible through mobile phones and tablets. It’s meant to be a friendly travel companion when visiting a new city for the first time and you want to see where you can buy a cup of coffee or pay for dinner using bitcoin.

– Similar sites and data sources already exist but none of them displayed the places in a way that gave us any information if the place was worth visiting. Coindero also focuses on user experience and we’ve created an interface that’s better than the other alternatives out there, says co-founder Emil Janitzek.

Coindero was created to support the great community around bitcoin and it was important that anyone could contribute to the database that backs the site.

– We want to create the most comprehensive and up-to-date database with bitcoin places available. That's why we've made it possible for anyone to add and edit places on Coindero, Emil Janitzek explains.

Any added or changed information about bitcoin places is synchronized with OpenStreetMap’s database, which is open and accessible for anyone. In that way, anyone who uses OpenStreetMap to power their service can take advantage of the data coming from Coindero.

– Now we need the help of the community to keep the database up-to-date. Together we need to add places that are missing and update current ones as things changes, Emil Janitezk explains.

Coindero

Coindero was created on Gothenburg Startup Hack 2014 by co-founder Emil Janitzek and Reimund Trost. Gothenburg Startup Hack is the biggest hackathon on the Swedish west coast, promoting entrepreneurship and a more active startup scene.

Co-founder Emil Jantizek and Reimund Trost are UX/front-end developers from Gothenburg, Sweden, with the sight set on making bitcoin easier to use for everyone.
