Blockchain.info Web Wallet Users Have Transacted $19.6 Billion in Bitcoin
The short article comes as somewhat of a correction and follow-up to a news report we published at the start of the month. Therein, we had reported that Blockchain.info web wallet users had transacted just over three billion dollars worth of bitcoin. We didn't just pull the information from thin air, though. It came from the site's own counter at blockchain.info/wallet (which we recognize is probably not an exact reflection of true figures but supplies an accurate projection). You'll probably be surprised to learn that the actual amount that's been transacted via the Blockchain.info web....

Blockchain.info is setting all sorts of records lately. Most recently, the internet's most popular bitcoin-related web property announced they had surpassed 1.5 million web wallets. Now, according to the service's wallet page, over $3.1 billion worth of bitcoin has successfully been transacted using the Blockchain web wallet. Certainly an impressive milestone. Blockchain continues to grow, now with 1.69 million web wallets set up and between 25,000 - 30,000 transactions taking place using the service every day. It wasn't terribly long ago that Bitcoin information and wallet provider Blockchain.info announced they had surpassed the 1.5 million in terms of MyWallet users, and a quick peak of the charts available on the service's website today reveals that number is significantly higher. A total of about 1.9 million users are utilizing the service (and they'll quickly be closing in on a whopping 2 million users), on average carrying out between 20,000-30,000 transactions on a daily basis. Transaction volume on the MyWallet service fluctuates on a daily basis, averaging in the 80,000-100,000 BTC....
Some interesting figures coming from Blockchain.info. As we approach the conclusion of 2013, it would appear as if Blockchain.info's user count of their 'My Wallet' bitcoin wallet is fast approaching one million users. Just take a look at the chart above. You can see exponential growth beginning in November, which is pretty much proportional to the huge inflation in the price of bitcoin around the time. At this rate, it looks as if the one million user mark will be crossed in January 2014. But where will we be in one year? Looks like the only way from here is upwards. (via Blockchain.info)
Timothy Lee, a former software developer at Blockchain.info, has announced the launch of ArcBit, an open source bitcoin wallet that supports stealth addresses and promises to provide greater user privacy. Lee, who had been working as a software developer at Blockchain.info for over a year, has left one of the hottest bitcoin startups to create his own product, naming a "difference in belief of what a bitcoin wallet should be" with his former employer.
